High End CCD Scan
We offer the digitalization of film material, glass slides and alternative photographic techniques, drawings and paintings, of typographies and all kinds of templates up to the size of 30x40cm, transparent and reflective. no-pixel is specialized in high-quality digitalization, with the highest appreciation for analog originals.
Technique
We work with scanners by the company Creo (former Scitex) and we use the last version issued by the iQsmart series. With the visual resolution of 5000 ppi covering the entire scan area from A3+ (max. 30x45cm), this machine provides high-resolution scan results. The maximum density of 4.1D, the output of 16-bit per RGB channel (48-bit) and the embedded ICC color profile, make the iQsmart 3 one of the best CCD scanners, that have been produced so far. The device is ideal for all common film formats, from small to panoramic sizes, for glass negatives, non-transparent templates and fragile originals. If a higher resolution is required, the scanner is able to achieve an interpolated resolution of 10000ppi. Please contact us accordingly. no-pixel basically only provides purely optical resolution.
Color is basically digitalized in a 16-bit (i.e. in color 16-bit per channel | RGB, often called 48-bit) and grey scale templates (BW) in 8-bit modus. Scans are handed out in Adobe RGB color space and delivered as TIFF. In case other data is required, please just leave a short comment in the according box in the order form.
Examples
Wet installation
Wet installation means that the templates are not directly placed on the template glass, but are embedded in a special scan liquid. This very technique benefits the brilliance of the scan, avoids Newton rings and any other kinds of disruptive elements, conceals surface defects in the scan template, and absorbs small dust particles. We use products by the companies SDS and Kami, which are proven not to have impact on the film material as well as they evaporate without residue immediately after the scan. Please consider that the template material is put into non-destructive and indulgent, but nevertheless wet liquid. Therefore paper and original pieces on water-absorbent materials are not suitable for wet installation.
FineScan
Despite the reasonable precautions to minimize any impurities and to get rid of dust particles (compressed air, anti-static brush, negative pressure), a 100% dust-free scan file is unrealizable. That is why a certain extra time for dust retouching has to be considered, especially when it comes to high-resolution images. Those who have gained experiences with film scanning, know this aspect to it. no-pixel offers a “RAW”-Scan option in the main order and delivers a digitally unprocessed image file. Choosing the option “FineScan” comes along with dust particle removal via retouching. Effort and complexity of dust retouch increase with high resolution, consequently we prorate the costs with 40% of the scan price. If a template is outstandingly impure and it is not to be cleaned despite all efforts prior to the scan, we will contact you after the order has been set and together we will come to a compromise.

Workflow
In order to clean the film material/original and remove impurities and dust particles, antistatic brushes, compressed air and/or film cleaner are used. For this purpose products by the companies Kami and Simco are applied. The cleaned templates are wrapped around an acrylic drum and are each inserted in a non-destructive scan liquid. The liquid covers the film material and conceals even the smallest scratches in the template, binds dust particles and prevents Newton rings from forming in the scan file. We use products by the company SDS and Kami, which were tested and proved to have no influence on the film material. Subsequently the liquid evaporates free from residue. Film and scan liquid are pressed onto the drum exterior by a transparency, so that a constant level of focus across the entire scan area is guaranteed.
As soon as the template is installed on the drum, the scan process begins. After a first pre-scan, the extract is defined, white and black-point are manually chosen and the individual required parameter for each individual scan is set. The scan process starts and according to each individual scan the processing time ranges from a few minutes up to a couple of hours. As soon as the scan is completed, the digital data is examined and retouched, and according to the specific order configuration it is saved on the server, a USB stick or a DVD. The template is disassembled, cleaned, securely packaged and prepared for delivery or collection.

no-pixel provides the entire digitalization offer in a web shop as well as it gives the customer the possibility to define services according to his or her requirements.
In order to be able to choose the scan according to your needs, we provided a configuration in the web shop, which allows you to select the required resolution in megapixel (Mpx) and the magnification factor (% in original size) after the setting of the film format or the template size. Subsequently you can define, if your scan should be processed in color or in black-and-white as well as you receive the information on the possible print size, pixel volume, file size and the final price of your scan. The option “FineScan” will be displayed and you can select it additionally. As soon as the product is adjusted to your needs, you can add your required number of products to the cart, conclude the order, and define another product.
Attention: If you want to order more scans of the same size, but at different resolutions and/or variations, please label each single template, so they can be easily assigned to the different orders.
High End CCD-Scan Pricing
The price per scan includes the installation price (5€) + Mpx 0,15€ for color, 0,10€ for BW plus VAT. The option “wet installation” for an additional amount of 3,00€ per scan and an extra “dust retouch” for 40% of the scan price can be selected.
